I remember the first conference where I ever spoke about threat modeling like it was yesterday. The conference was the Microsoft Secure Development Lifecycle conference in Washington, DC, and the year was around 2010. I did a panel with a few other folks on threat modeling under the more significant SDL conference context. I always wished for a conference focused on threat modeling, and now that wish has come true!

I am acting as the first conference chair for Threat Modeling Conference. A few of us in the world of threat modeling got together as founding members of Threat Modeling Connect. During an initial conversation, I mentioned that a big-ticket goal of Connect should be to host a threat modeling conference. And my reward for that suggestion was an invitation to chair the event. Always be careful when making suggestions. Of course, I'm kidding and honored to chair this event.

I'm working with my various threat modeling besties, like Izar Tarandach @izar , Matt Coles, Brook Schoenfield (@Brook Schoenfield), Irene Michlin (@irene221b ), Sandy Blackwell (@Sblackwell), Chris Ramirez (@cramirez), and Zoe Braiterman (@Zoe Braiterman). We joined forces as a threat modeling committee to put together the best and most educational event on threat modeling.

Threat modeling is critical to application security, enabling organizations to anticipate potential security threats and devise effective countermeasures. The Threat Modeling Conference 2023 aims to bring together the brightest minds to discuss, debate, and share insights on the latest developments, trends, and best practices in threat modeling. We expect the event to be small enough for plenty of hallway conversations.

Delighted to see this event being set up! Very much looking forward to it!

It would be great if you guys could consider to make this event online too. I would love to listen and participate in these sections remotely, since traveling to Washington is not an option right now. I hope this event be a success so we can improve the quality and results of threat modeling in companies around the world. Please, think about this option ;)

Hi @Paula Fernandes - thank you for your feedback! 😊 We decided to make this very first Threat Modeling Conference an in-person event for the invaluable networking experience that would be challenging to achieve in a hybrid model (without the AV headaches involved 😔).

That said, we’re excited to meet you at our other upcoming events. In addition to the monthly meetup (about scoping for threat modeling) this Friday and a workshop (about incremental threat modeling) this November, we’re planning on a few more towards the end of the year. Hope to see you there!
